Jesus (from the Bible, Recorded by his friend John 3:16
EASTER is a big deal for people who follow Jesus.
"Rising from the dead" is a pretty familiar saying about what Jesus did after the cross. And even if you don't believe it, pretty sure you've heard it a few times.
But, have you ever read the accounts in the Bible? The account from John gives a lot of attention to Jesus' final week.
A resurrection is certainly not a very common occurrence, or claim.
But Jesus was seen alive by quite a few people in the weeks that followed that first Easter. It gave them eyewitness confidence. These devastated followers at his death on Good Friday, gained a courageous faith upon seeing him.
Their conviction about what they saw and learned from him, started the largest movement in the history of the world. We're part of that 2K year old movement, and hope to be doing some good while we live.
We also know that there have been some very shameful things that people calling Jesus their 'cause' have done. Being drawn to sin and selfishness and power doesn't go away when you decide to follow him. It is embarrassing that the sin of pride corrupts followers of the humble servant leader Jesus.
You may not have learned of the great things done in his name. There have been sweeping and small positive changes around our world, over the centuries, have make life immensely better for humankind. Schools and Hospitals all around the world, are two examples of sacrificial Christians who stemmed the tide of evil, lifted people out of poverty, and brought hope.
There is a movie The Case for Christ (or even just the trailer). It might spark your curiosity about Jesus this Easter week. There really is a heap of evidence for the claim that Jesus is alive.
And he continues to make all things new.
